Zero Gravity Racing is a sailboat racing team out of San Diego created by Ivan Batanov. Ivan is a passionate sailor who has pulled together a team to participate in the 50th running of the transoceanic race known as Transpac. Transpac is one of the iconic blue water ocean races which starts off of Los Angles California and finishes at the majestic Diamond Head buoy and Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. This 2300 mile race is ran every two years and takes months some times years to prepare for. Transpac is a bucket list race for sailors throughout the world. Zero Gravity – The Boat

Zero Gravity is a high performance racing sailboat designed by Javiar Soto Acebal and built by M Yachts out of Argentina. It is a 40 foot race boat that is been raced throughout the world. Ivan choose this boat for Transpac because of it’s downwind sailing characteristics which Transpac is primarily about, fast downwind sailing.

Ivan Batanov – Skipper

Clark Hardy – Watch Captain

Clark Hardy is veteran sailor of multiply Transpacs and west coast races. He brings a vast experience and sailing knowhow to the team. As a Watch Caption, he is in charge of the boat while on deck.

Ryan Mazzella – Foredeck

As the Foredeck, Ryan is in charge of making all the sail changes on the boat. This demanding job takes intelligence and brawn to keep track of all the sails and lines that connect to them.

Marvin Lee – Main Sail Trimmer

Marvin is also a veteran of Transpacs and has raced multiple long distance races on the East Coast, West Coast and Hawaii. As a main sail trimmer, he controls the primary sail for the boat which powers the boat through the water.

Zero Gravity – Newport Beach, CA to Cabo San Lucas, BC Mexico

In March, the team participated in the annual Newport to Cabo race as preparation for Transpac. We used this race to test out our sails, equipment, communication gear and watch system. The boat sailed beautifully and was a great test for the crew and boat. Lessons learned from this race help the team optimize the boat and taught the crew how to sail her to her full potential. The Cabo race gave the crew a sneak preview of what a blast Transpac is going to be like. N2Cabo
